Letter from the UF Health Cancer Committee Chair
In preparation for writing this letter, I took a quick inventory of the year behind us and of the year ahead. Our cancer committee members worked hard to prepare this institution for its reaccreditation application to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. I am extremely proud and thankful to each committee member who contributed to the effort, which resulted in reaccreditation with three commendations! Great work, team.
Not only does this committee represent our institution to the CoC, it also represents the institution’s cancer enterprise to the institution itself — providing the interdisciplinary groups involved in patient-centered care the opportunity to interact, collaborate, and coordinate efforts to establish and maintain the highest quality of service to our cancer patients and their families. Meeting quarterly, the committee’s goals continue to be that of auditing patient care, assuring the breadth and depth of educational programs, tumor conferences and other clinical activities, ensuring patient access to consultative services in all disciplines and providing oversight and quality control of data from the UF Health Shands Oncology Data Center.
Our work is part of the UF Health Cancer Center’s interdisciplinary initiative at the UF Health Academic Health Center, UF Health Shands in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville. The great breadth and dedication of our committee membership draws from all corners of the institution’s cancer clinical and research enterprise. It is satisfying to know that our members’ passionate dedication to only the best and highest national standards in patient care and outcomes enrich UF Health at every level as we move forward.
