Events: Pink Pumpkin Fest 2012

Join us for the UF&Shands Pink Pumpkin Fest to raise breast cancer awareness and support breast cancer research right here at the University of Florida! We’ve got a full line up of exciting, all-ages activities we hope will elevate awareness of the need for breast cancer research and the importance of annual mammograms to saving lives.

Salmon Dinner Fundraiser to benefit UF&Shands Cancer Nurse Navigation
Micanopy Masonic Lodge, 503 Cholokka Boulevard, Micanopy FL

Support the UF&Shands Cancer Nurse Navigator Program by joining us between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in historic downtown Micanopy for a fundraising dinner!  Tickets are $20 at the door, and includes your choice of delicious Broiled Salmon Filet or Braised Pork Tenderloin, Fettucini Alfredo, Pan-seared Green Beans, Garden Salad, Garlic Roll, Drink and special home-made Desserts! Take your dinners home or dine at the lodge while enjoying live music in historic downtown Micanopy.

Saturday, Oct. 13: UF&Shands Pink Pumpkin Fest!!

Gather friends and family and join in the host of activities at the UF&Shands Pink Pumpkin Fest, Saturday, Oct. 13, on the corner of Archer Road and Gale Lemerand Drive. Festivities start at 8:30 a.m. when cyclists will take off in the Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off charity ride!  Then, at 10 a.m., the festival gets into full swing with the Second Annual Pink Pumpkin Painting Party, bounce house for the kids and a Pee Wee Pink Pumpkin Bicycle Parade, with special prizes for kids 12 and under who decorate their bikes for breast cancer awareness. A pavilion staffed with heathcare professionals will be on-site providing a variety of free screenings and health counseling.

8:30 a.m. Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off Charity Bicycle Ride to benefit breast cancer research

Register to ride your choice of 20, 40 or 55-mile routes and tour the University of Florida campus, Gainesville’s historic Southeast District, the natural beauty of local lakes and habitats, and a roll along Florida’s scenic Hawthorne Trail. Wear a pink ribbon to honor a loved one affected by breast cancer. Registration fee includes Dri-Fit shirt and lunch. Register online! Can’t ride but still want to participate? 10 a.m. — The UF&Shands 2nd Annual Pink Pumpkin Painting Party!

Pick your very own pink pumpkin from our “Pink Pumpkin Patch” and decorate it to honor a loved one who’s been touched by breast cancer. Bring the kids along, too, because there’s a Pee Wee Pink Pumpkin Bicycle Parade for kids ages 12 and under. They’ll have a chance to win prizes for best-decorated bike! All those who arrive wearing their 2012 ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer T-shirt will be automatically entered to win a pink Nike iPod Nano!! The party is FREE and takes place on the lawn of the Cancer Genetics Research Complex on the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Archer Road.
