On Nov. 15-16, the UF Health Cancer Center hosted the 2nd Annual Cancer Research Showcase. We hosted 10 K-awardees from across the nation. This was a unique opportunity to meet some very promising early stage cancer researchers, and show them how great it is to live and work in North Central Florida. The invitees gave brief talks about their work, attended presentations by UF faculty, toured the ICBR, and learned about the excellent faculty development opportunities at the University of Florida. The keynote speaker was Dr. Christian Jobin, PhD., who presented on “Microbiota: A new front in Cancer Research?”
Thank you to our UF faculty who agreed to act as sponsors for this year’s attendees: Drs. Avram, Fisher, Guryanova, Jobin, Krieger, Law, Leeuwenburgh, Wilkie, and Xie. Moreover, we would like to thank Drs. Guryanova, Xie, and Madore for giving up some of their weekend by joining our ICBR tour and butterfly museum event. The event ended with a wonderful pizza lunch at Satchels. We would also like to thank the students and postdocs in Renne and Guryanova labs for providing transportation and manning the registration desk, as well as the UFHCC staff that helped with day-of-event logistics.
It is only through great faculty participation that this event can leave a lasting impression on our attendees, and we have already received many kind words of thanks from this year’s group.
