Editorial: Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to move from awareness to action

Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office announced that his wife, First Lady Casey DeSantis, the 41-year-old mother of their three young children, had been diagnosed with breast cancer. 

Many Jacksonville residents probably remember Casey DeSantis from local television shows. She was host of First Coast Living and The Chat on First Coast News and had also worked as a reporter and anchor on News4Jax. She also produced shows for the PGA TOUR.

When someone is on television day after day, interviewing local chefs or officials or providing important news updates, viewers can quickly begin to feel like they know them, root for their successes and worry about them in their times of need.
