Shilpi Mistry selected for UF Health Cancer Center Cancer Policy Internship

Shilpi Mistry, a second-year Master of Public Health student with a concentration in epidemiology in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions, has been selected for the UF Health Cancer Center’s Cancer Policy Internship

Shilpi Mistry

She will intern this fall in the office of Rep. Darren Soto. Cancer policy interns work out of the University of Florida’s Washington, D.C. office and primarily focus on legislative support related to cancer health policy, cancer prevention and telehealth initiatives in rural communities. The interns gain unique exposure to the U.S. government’s inner workings to advance the center’s education and research missions.

“I am eager to collaborate with experts in the field, track legislative activity and engage in meaningful projects that align with my academic interests,” Mistry said. “Pursuing this internship will provide me with an exceptional opportunity to make a tangible impact in advancing the center’s education and research missions while representing the University of Florida as a leading voice on crucial matters.”

Mistry has a focus on public health research and data management. Since January, she has been working as a graduate research assistant with Shama Karanth, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of surgery in the UF College of Medicine and member of the UF Health Cancer Center’s Cancer Control & Population Sciences research program. Karanth’s research interests are cancer epidemiology, particularly lung and oropharyngeal cancer survivorship.

Congratulations, Shilpi!
