Mary Kai Patterson selected for Cancer Policy Internship

Mary Kai Patterson, a Master of Public Health student pursuing a concentration in population health management in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions, has been selected for the UF Health Cancer Center’s Cancer Policy Internship.

Mary Kai Patterson

She will intern this spring in the office of Rep. Darren Soto. Cancer policy interns work out of the University of Florida’s Washington, D.C. office and primarily focus on legislative support related to cancer health policy, cancer prevention, and telehealth initiatives in rural communities. The interns gain unique exposure to the U.S. government’s inner workings to advance the center’s education and research missions.

Patterson said she is interested in the intersection of health and law and hopes to work in health policy after graduation.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to work in the epicenter of federal policy and advocate for public health research and initiatives,” she said. “Public health policy is more important now than ever. I am excited for the opportunity to engage with stakeholders and advocate for policies that serve the needs of constituents, especially those impacted by cancer.”

Congratulations, Mary!
