Biostatistician selected for ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop

Tuo Lin, Ph.D., clinical trials unit leader of the Biostatistics and Computational Biology Shared Resource, has been selected to participate as a junior faculty biostatistician for the ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop this summer.

The workshop, taking place July 20-25 in La Jolla, California, is an intensive workshop in the essentials of effective clinical trial designs of therapeutic interventions in the treatment of cancer for clinical fellow and junior faculty clinical researchers in all oncology subspecialties, including radiation, surgical oncology and radiology.

“Being selected for this award and the opportunity to attend the AACR/ASCO Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop is a great honor,” said Lin, a research assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions. “As an early-career biostatistician, this selection reflects both trust and investment in my potential as a team scientist in clinical oncology research. I am very grateful because this award provides financial support for me to attend one of the most prestigious clinical trial workshops in the world.”

Lin’s primary goal is to strengthen his collaboration skills with clinical investigators in designing early-phase and pragmatic oncology trials.

“I am particularly interested in gaining a deeper understanding of key trial design considerations, such as clinical question formulation, endpoint selection and regulatory requirements, which are critical to high-quality trial design but often less emphasized in traditional biostatistics training,” Lin said.

At the UF Health Cancer Center, Lin serves as the lead biostatistician on many early-phase oncology trials and plays a central role in developing investigator-initiated trials. The workshop will help him strengthen his ability to design and support these trials, from concept to implementation.

“It comes at an ideal time in my career as I work to establish myself as a collaborative leader in oncology research, positioning me to take on a more proactive and strategic role in future multidisciplinary clinical research teams,” he said.

Congratulations, Dr. Lin!
