UF Health Shands Hospital is ranked among the country’s top 50 hospitals for cancer treatment, according to the 2025-26 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” report.

The specialty is ranked No. 39, placing the health system among the most distinguished in the country for high-quality, innovative cancer care.

The prestigious ranking is a testament to the leading-edge cancer research at the UF Health Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center at a public institution in Florida. With more than $55 million in cancer research grants, the Cancer Center is advancing new, more effective treatments for patients with cancer.

Patients have access to more than 200 active clinical trials across all cancer types, and the center is committed to providing access to the newest late-breaking treatments, with nearly 100 early-phase cancer trails open last year.

“We’re thrilled to be included in the top 50 cancer care enterprises in the country,” said Jonathan Licht, M.D., director of the UF Health Cancer Center. “This is a testament to the expertise of our clinicians and the dedication of our researchers to solving the problem of cancer in our region. The UF Health Cancer Center is in the midst of a planned expansion, recruiting a new wave of fundamental science, population science and clinical science and care experts to meet the challenges of cancer in the 21st century.”

Each year, U.S. News evaluates close to 6,000 hospitals, adhering to a rigorous eligibility process that considers factors like complexity of care, patient volume and the level of care a hospital can offer.

This year, cancer is one of seven medical specialties at UF Health ranked among the country’s finest. In cancer, UF Health Shands is also “high performing” in colon cancer surgery, gynecological cancer surgery, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, lung cancer surgery and prostate cancer surgery.

U.S. News ranks hospitals using a wide array of data, measuring patient outcomes like the average time from admission to discharge, nurse staffing, patient experience and expert opinions, among other factors.
