Mingyi Xie, Ph.D., the Henry E. Innes Professor in Cancer Research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been appointed as a standing member of the Gene Regulation in Cancer study section at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The study section reviews applications aimed at understanding how dysregulated gene expression at the levels of transcription, RNA metabolism, epigenetics or translation contributes to cancer development. Xie will serve through June 2030.
Members of chartered review groups are recognized authorities in their field and active scientists.
Xie also serves as a term member on the American Cancer Society’s RNA Mechanisms in Cancer study section.
Xie’s research focuses on understanding how non-coding RNAs and RNA-binding proteins contribute to gene regulation in human health and disease. A UF Research Foundation Professor, he is a member of the UF Health Cancer Institute’s Mechanisms of Oncogenesis research program.
Xie was also recently named director of the UF College of Medicine R01 Boot Camp program. A fourth-year coach, he will lead faculty in receiving R01 grants from the NIH.
