The Community Outreach and Engagement Community Advisory Board

The UFHCC Community Advisory Board strives to incorporate the perspective of the community when building partnerships for research; identifying research topics; designing studies; interpreting and disseminating research findings, designing cancer education programs, health promotion interventions; and participating in a community engaged research process. Through the Community Advisory Board, research studies are designed and findings are shared with community members, stakeholders, and public officials. The UFHCC Community Advisory Board aims to form sustained community-academic partnerships to facilitate community-engaged research in our catchment area.

The main goals of the Community Advisory Board are to:

  1. Promote equitable and collaborative partnerships between researchers and the community;
  2. Promote infrastructure development to support community-engaged research;
  3. Provide education about community- and population-based cancer research back to the communities; and
  4. Promote community-engaged research focused on reducing cancer health disparities.

The primary activities of the Community Advisory Board are to:

  • Review cancer-focused catchment area needs assessments and make recommendations for research topics of importance to the community;
  • Review and recommend funding for grant proposals submitted by UF faculty and their community partners;
  • Collaborate with researchers and provide recommendations on research design, participant recruitment and retention, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of results for UFHCC affiliated research projects;
  • Participate in two face-to-face meetings annually and periodic e-mail and/or telephone discussions;
  • Serve as a liaison between the local community and UFHCC researchers; and
  • Collaborate with and advise the UFHCC Community Outreach and Engagement leadership about programmatic initiatives to reduce cancer risks and burden in the catchment area
