Cancer Connections Lecture Series

The Cancer Connections meetings were co-founded by Barb Thomas and Margaret Shaw in May 2009. Barb is a 12-year survivor of breast cancer who wanted to give something back to the local cancer community after finishing treatment in January 2007. The meetings were created to bring together cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and all cancer healthcare professionals who treat or provide a service to those affected by cancer.

Rather than acting as a support group, the goal was – and remains – to provide an educational and networking forum to benefit all attendees. The presentations disseminate cutting-edge cancer research, yet are organized so that all attendees can understand the language. The goal is for the community to gain a deeper awareness of current research, treatments options and healthcare services that are available to them.

Barb has spent the past ten years scheduling the speakers, sending out the monthly invitation to the meetings and personally preparing a healthful lunch for those who attend.

HealthStreet provides a welcoming venue for the meetings and does all the physical set-up of the room, as well as the placement and operation of the audio-video components.
