Premise: We seek to enhance the graduate program application success of undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students by offering them a summer research experience in the laboratories of oncology-focused investigators at the UF Health Cancer Center. By taking full advantage of the wide range of this faculty research expertise to provide immersive training opportunities in multiple facets of cancer research, we believe that we can achieve the overarching goal of the Florida STRONGER Program: to increase the number of Florida students who enroll in research-focused doctoral degree programs.
Objective: This program is designed to aid students pursuing baccalaureate degrees to achieve the goal of successfully applying to competitive health-related Ph.D. programs in order to pursue careers in cancer research.
Students who are selected for the Florida STRONGER Program will receive the following benefits:
- Round-trip travel to and from the University of Florida for non-local participants.
- Subsistence allowance of $15/hour. For a full-time (40 hours a week) 15-week program, $9,000 per participant will be provided.
- Housing allowance of $1,000 per participant.
- Research education-related expense budget of $1,000 per participant for expenses such as lab supplies, poster production costs, books, tuition, travel to a conference to present interim research findings, etc.
