Research Mentoring Opportunity for UF Pre- and Postdoctoral Trainees

The UF Health Cancer Center is seeking proposals from UF predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees for collaborative summer cancer research projects.

Applicant Eligibility

  • All actively enrolled UF doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees (any discipline, department or college) are encouraged to apply
  • Proposals for research projects must be cancer focused
  • Projects must be completed within the timeframe of the summer program

Program Overview

Applicants will:

  • Prepare a research proposal for a short-term summer research project
  • Prepare a budget to support the scope of work
  • Participate in a Mentoring 101 workshop
  • Provide a 3MT presentation about their project
  • Participate in a speed-networking event for mentor matching

UF trainees who are selected to participate in the program will:

  • Serve as a direct mentor for an undergraduate intern on their summer research project
  • Teach their intern research techniques and provide advice on graduate opportunities
  • Help their intern present a poster at the STRONGER Research Showcase
  • Receive a scholarship award at the end of the program from the UF Health Cancer Center

How to Apply

We encourage all trainees to participate in a Research Mentors Workshop on March 27 to learn how to prepare competitive research proposals.

The STRONGER Program

Interns in the STRONGER Program will develop skills as young scientists and explore their interest in cancer research. This program will strengthen their research portfolio and aid their academic competitiveness to successfully apply to advanced degree programs.
