Zhijian Qian, Ph.D., co-leader of the Mechanisms of Oncogenesis research program, received the UF College of Medicine’s Outstanding Research Scientist Award in Basic or Translational Sciences award. Partnering for cancer prevention
 | |
The UF Health Cancer Center is joining with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Moffitt Cancer Center to fund four grants that will bring cancer prevention and detection education to high-risk Florida communities.
The community grants will support new and ongoing cancer screening and prevention projects across the state this year. They include a health fair to help people quit smoking, free mammograms and a big walk-through inflatable colon that shows tumor growth, among other initiatives.

Member spotlight: Jeffrey Harrison
 | |
Jeffrey K. Harrison, Ph.D., is a professor and vice chair of education in the department of pharmacology and therapeutics in the UF College of Medicine. His research is focused on understanding the immune-suppressive microenvironment of highly malignant brain tumors such as glioblastoma. The laboratory uses preclinical mouse models of glioma to probe interactions between glioma and immune cells. The long-term goals are directed toward the development of novel approaches to slow glioma progression and overcoming treatment resistance.
