The Department of Neurosurgery is dedicated to providing technically superb, compassionate, and timely medical care to patients, and developing new and better treatments for adult and pediatric tumors of the brain and spine. Malignant lesions include glioblastoma, anaplastic astrocytoma, germinoma, metastases, CNS lymphoma, and many other benign and malignant tumors. When appropriate, these lesions are treated with the latest microsurgical, computer assisted, and radiosurgical techniques. In addition, state-of-the-art radiation, chemotherapy and medical treatments are provided. Our multidisciplinary treatment approach links expert clinicians and researchers to provide the latest advances in cancer treatment, including those only available through phase I-III clinical trials.

Multidisciplinary Treatment Team

The Department of Neurosurgery, in conjunction with the Preston A. Wells, Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy, works in multidisciplinary treatment teams which provide extensive experience in many areas of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors. Team-members meet weekly to carefully review patient information and develop the best possible treatment plan for each individual. Patients and caregivers are supported by the Center’s “patient navigator” and are provided the opportunity to participate in education programs, counseling and support groups.

The multidisciplinary treatment team includes physicians, nurses and staff who can provide extensive experience in many areas of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Our patients benefit from numerous services including:

Comprehensive Patient Care

The University of Florida Department of Neurosurgery offers a full range of neurosurgical services that are integrated into the Preston A. Wells, Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy, a center which provides truly comprehensive care, superior outcomes and to offer a streamlined experience for patients, caregivers and referring physicians. Services are provided through UF Health Shands Hospital, UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and the Gainesville VA Medical Center.
