Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping cancer research — its use is exploding in biomedical research and health care, including across all dimensions of cancer research, where the potential applications for AI are vast.

This event builds on the inaugural AI Day for Cancer Research in 2021. This year, the hybrid mini-symposium focuses on the UF Health Cancer Center’s strategic plan, Momentum 2027.  The strategic plan includes several goals, one of which is to conduct transdisciplinary research that leverages expertise and initiatives across the University of Florida. Under this goal, there are two strategies relevant to AI and imaging:

  • To investigate biological, behavioral and social determinants of health related to cancer incidence and mortality. We will accomplish this goal by using integrative approaches, including AI, combining “big data” from the electronic health record, cancer registry data and biospecimens to elucidate mechanisms of carcinogenesis and inform interventional prevention strategies.
  • To grow infrastructure to enhance transdisciplinary research initiatives. We will accomplish this goal by recruiting AI experts to analyze radiomics, biomarkers, multi-omics and electronic health records.

This free mini-symposium is open to UF researchers, faculty, students and trainees. It is hosted by the UF Health Cancer Center Division of Quantitative Sciences, the Cancer AI Working Group and the UF Health Cancer Center Biostatistics & Computational Biology Shared Resource. Lunch and coffee will be provided to in-person attendees.
