Cancer Research Conference for Science Teachers

The annual Cancer Research Conference for Science Teachers allows teachers to hear about the leading-edge research taking place at UF and connect with scientists, physicians and students to engage in a dialogue about community health and well-being. The conference takes place at the University of Florida Cancer & Genetics Research Complex in Gainesville, Florida, and includes a welcome reception social at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Institute and a social mixer at the Harn Museum of Art.

Florida 4-H University — Cancer Discovery Workshop

The Florida 4-H University enables 14- to 18-year-old students to participate in educational workshops, explore career opportunities and lead community service activities. Each summer, graduate students in the Cancer Institute provide Discovery Workshops for high school students from the 4-H program. Students learn about cancer research from the gene level to the protein level, including oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. Students also participate in a hands-on DNA-extraction experiment.
